Outlaws dominate competition at Junior High Basketball Tourney

Both Roy-Winifred’s junior high basketball teams were victorious at the Junior High Basketball Tournament played in Geyser for the girls and in Stanford for the boys. In order to avoid a conflict with the district music festival, games were played on Thursday and Saturday.

In the girls’ championship on Saturday, Roy-Winifred defeated Belt for the District 8C title. In Stanford, Roy-Winifred won over Centerville to take the boys’ title.

In opening round girls’ games on Thursday, Centerville defeated Geraldine-Highwood, Belt defeated Winnett-Grass Range and Tri-City (Moore, Hobson, Judith Gap) defeated Denton-Geyser-Stanford. In the two semi-final games on Thursday, Roy-Winifred won over Centerville and Belt defeated Tri-City.

In opening round boys’ games on Thursday, Belt defeated DGS, Centerville won over Geraldine-Highwood and Winnett-Grass Range defeated Tri-City. The two semi-final games on Thursday saw Roy-Winifred win over Belt and Centerville won over Winnett-Grass Range.

Loser-out action began early on Saturday morning in both Geyser and Stanford. DGS defeated Winnett-Grass Range in the first girls’ loser out contest, while Tri-City defeated Geraldine-Highwood in the first boys’ loser out contest.

Centerville defeated DGS in the next loser-out contest to move into the girls’ consolation game. On the boys’ side, Winnett-Grass Range defeated DGS in a loser-out contest to advance to the consolation game.

Tri-City won over Centerville in the girls’ consolation game to take third. Taking third in the boys’ competition was Belt with a win over Winnett-Grass Range in the consolation game.
